Anne Dubbs and Elizabeth Downing met through mutual friends and immediately found they had many things in common including their American heritage, passion for design and dedication to their families and dogs. Both women had careers in design in New York before relocating to London, Anne at Cowtan & Tout and Liz at Mark Hampton Inc. Together they founded Blithfield in London in 1997. Much of the collection is drawn from their extensive archive, a collection of historic documents accumulated over many years of sourcing and exploration.
Anne Dubbs, now based in New York, is the creative director; her inspiration is the source for all of the fabric and wallpaper designs. Liz Downing, based in London, is the sales, marketing and production director.
