FINE CELL WORK COLLECTION
Impressed by the mission of Fine Cell Work, Blithfield collaborated with Kit Kemp, Design Director and co-owner of Firmdale Hotels, and the late Melissa Wyndham to develop an exquisite range of cushions. Together they selected Blithfield designs that would lend themselves perfectly to vibrant stitched embellishment with embroidery and enhanced with French knots. The cushions include Pineapple and Small Damask from the Peggy Angus Collection, as well as Rossmore, Linwood and Stratford, and will be available for sale through our new sister company, Downing & Bedford, launching later in 2016.
Fine Cell Work is a charity and social enterprise which helps to enable prisoners to develop new skills, earn money and to acquire the self-belief to stop offending. Fine Cell Work specifically addresses key issues affecting prisoners’ offending behaviour; establishment and reinforcement of work skills, building relationships and mental resilience. Currently working in 30 prisons across the UK, they work with 250 prisoners at any one time. The work produced in prison includes stitching needlepoint and embroidered cushions, bags, wall hangings and patchwork quilts. Products are of a superb quality as prisoners are taught by volunteers, including members of the Embroiderers and Quilters Guild. The prisoners’ work is sold around the world. Some are interior design collaborations and commissions, other designs are heritage pieces for the V&A, English Heritage, and for the Duchess of Cornwall and the Prince of Wales.
